Place vinyl (liner side down) onto Cricut StandardGrip cutting mat.
Select and size images. Load mat into your machine.
Refer to Holographic Vinyl Custom Cut Guide table below to adjust machine settings. Use a "kiss cut" when cutting Vinyl. A kiss cut is a cut that only goes through the vinyl and leaves the liner intact.
Press CUT.
Preparation with Cricut Transfer Tape
Remove the negative pieces from each of the images using the Weeder found in the Cricut Tool Kit, leaving the liner intact. This process is known as weeding.
Remove the liner from the transfer tape.
Take the transfer tape in each hand with the adhesive side facing down. Gently place the transfer tape over the images. To prevent bubbles, start in the center and move out toward the edges. Use a craft stick or Scraper found in the Cricut Tool Kit to burnish (rub or polish) the tape onto the vinyl.
Peel away the Vinyl liner at a 45-degree angle. If the Vinyl does not separate from the liner, simply burnish the transfer tape onto the vinyl again and then continue to peel the vinyl away from the liner.
Application
Make sure your project surface is clean and dry. Carefully place the transfer tape with Vinyl images onto your surface how you would like them to appear.
Now burnish transfer tape onto the surface, starting in the center and moving out toward the edges. A craft stick or Scraper from the Cricut Tool Kit can be used.
Peel the transfer tape away from the Vinyl at a 45-degree angle. If the Vinyl images stick to the transfer tape, simply burnish the Vinyl onto the surface again. Then continue to peel the transfer tape away from the Vinyl.
How Do You Get Air Bubbles Out of Vinyl?
There are a few different ways to ensure a flawless finish to your vinyl when dealing with air bubbles and wrinkles. Let's dive into it!
1. Application Tool: An application tool is your ally in the battle against bubbles. Using the application tool, push the air bubbles toward the edges. Work methodically, applying consistent pressure. Pair this method with any of the others to have even more success in getting that smooth finish.
2. Sunlight: When you notice air bubbles in your adhesive vinyl, consider letting it bask in the sun. Place your project near a sunny window or outdoors (if weather permits) and allow the vinyl to warm up. As the adhesive softens, the air bubbles may naturally dissipate. Patience is key. Remember, this method works best for smaller bubbles and may not be as effective for larger ones.
3. Weeding Tool: Gently pierce the center of the air bubble with the pointed tip. Apply even pressure to release the trapped air. Work your way from the center outward, smoothing the vinyl as you go. Be cautious not to create additional wrinkles or tears.
4. Heat: Use a heat gun or a hairdryer on low heat to warm the vinyl. As it becomes pliable, gently press down on the bubbled areas with your fingers or the application tool. Be cautious not to overheat the vinyl.
Do air bubbles go away on their own on vinyl? Small air bubbles do tend to vanish on their own over time, especially if you set your project in the sun. The trapped air within the adhesive will gradually escape through the vinyl, potentially leaving your surface smooth and bubble-free. But here's the secret: patience is key. This method isn't always succesful, but don't worry, we will walk you through other ways get rid of those frustrating bubbles.
How do you get bubbles out of vinyl with heat? One way to get small bubbles out of your vinyl is with heat. This can be done with just a few hours in the sun or for a quick alternative, a heat gun or hair dryer can also do the trick. Using an application tool to push the bubbles out, while also using heat is a great option to get smooth adhesive vinyl.
